A little bit about myself...
I was born in Silver Spring, Maryland in 1974. Growing up in Silver Spring allowed for frequent visits downtown to museums as a child and music clubs as a teen. All of which surely helped shape my artistic talents. Determined NOT to tap into this, however, I attended the University of Delaware to study biology in 1992. Needless to say, art soon won over, and in 1996 I graduated with a degree in illustration. After college and several years in Colorado for a change of scenery, I returned to DC and began to tap into the local art scene. In 2003 I was chosen by the Cultural Development Corporation to receive a permanent live/work space in the Mather Studios building in downtown DC and one year later was juried in as a member of the Washington Printmakers Gallery. Since then, I have been helping to teach classes at the Washington Glass School and have focused on developing techniques that combine printmaking and sculptural glass. Also during this time I have received several artist grants through the DCCAH and have been recognized in shows such as Artomatic when in 2004 I was placed on Gallery Neptune's top ten list and in 2007 when I was chosen to receive the Encouragement Award from Habatat Gallery. I am currently represented by Gallery Neptune in Bethesda, Maryland. In the future I will be working to push my knowledge of printmaking in unique directions and will strive to produce more innovative pieces.
Art provides a means to formulate and express my feelings toward the world and every piece is a journey of self-exploration. My goal is for a viewer to commit time to my work so I try to hint at meaning beyond the surface. A successful piece triggers instant recognition; yet requires an investment of time for further investigation. I am most fond of printmaking because of the very tactile link to the past the process provides. Aside from making a living with my art and having successful shows, I wish most of all to always to find happiness creating artwork.
